Ever had that moment where you walk into a room and can’t remember why? Or, maybe you lack the focus you need to get through work or a final exam. Let’s face it. We’ve all been there.
Nootropics have been developed over the past several decades just for that purpose.
Lots of supplements promise a ‘goodbye to brain fog’, but do they work?
The problem is choosing which one is right for you.
In this article, we take a closer look at one brain booster that’s fighting for the top spot among consumers:
How Do Nootropics Like OptiMind® Work?
Nootropics or ‘smart drugs’ are primarily engineered to enhance your mental function.
However, these days, people are using nootropics for everything from increased energy levels to mood boosters.
Nootropics use a combination of vitamins and herbs to create natural proprietary blends.
Once absorbed through the stomach, these vitamins and herbs are designed to aid in changing your metabolic pathways enhancing the neurotransmitters and enzymes in your brain.
If all goes well, your brain will be triggered to function at a higher level.
What is OptiMind®?
OptiMind is a relatively new nootropic to the market. It combines several known brain boosters into one dosage.
This unique formula was designed to benefit people of all ages and lifestyles. It doesn’t matter if you’re 18 or 81. OptiMind® claims to be able to give you the cognitive performance you need.
If you need help with any of the following, OptiMind® might be able to help.
- Trouble focusing on the task at hand
- Low-energy levels
- Difficulty with word-recall
- Noticeable ‘brain fog’
- Trouble coping with stress and anxiety
Use OptiMind® for anything from passing a final to giving yourself an edge at work, to an overall better mental performance throughout the day.
You may find that 1-2 capsules in the morning will last you the entire day. Others might need to take several doses to keep them going.
To determine the best dosage for you, consider some of the following factors. Only you can be the judge of what’s right for your body.
- Weight and body type
- Your gender
- Tolerance to stimulants
OptiMind® should be consumed with food. Otherwise, you may be left feeling jittery or anxious.
Although OptiMind® can be taken in the morning and throughout the day as necessary, you should not exceed the maximum recommended dose of 8 capsules per day.
OptiMind® is an easy-to-swallow capsule that can quickly be taken on the go. Unlike powder varieties that need to be mixed before use, you can control your dosage better as well.
OptiMind® contains both caffeine and B12. Because this product is considered a stimulant, it shouldn’t be combined with other stimulants.
Avoid taking this supplement if you are pregnant or nursing. Persons with pre-existing health conditions should seek medical advice before taking this or any other stimulant.
What Can You Expect from Taking OptiMind®?
OptiMind® can be used in multiple ways to keep your brain on track. The majority of people use OptiMind® for a more productive brain, for a boost of energy, and even as a mood enhancer.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that you will instantly be able to remember your best friends’ mother’s maiden name from elementary school. Nor are you going to become an immediate genius chess player.
Let’s take a better look at some of the main reasons people are introducing OptiMind® into their daily routine.

Enhanced Mental Performance
It’s hard to say what enhanced mental performance will mean to you. We all have a unique brain chemistry.
OptiMind® was scientifically formulated to improve mental abilities by altering the number of neurotransmitters available.
Short-term memory retention is among one of the biggest claims of this nootropic supplement. When taking OptiMind®, you may also notice a positive change in your ‘brain fog.’
Users who take nootropics such as OptiMind® also state they have better word recall and motivation throughout the day.
Focus and Clarity
Many college students and business professionals turn to nootropics to organize their busy lives. Staying focused on the task at hand becomes easier with increased concentration.
Not only is the focus improved, but people also say they feel a sense of clarity when taking nootropics as well.
This ‘clarity’ is associated with the brain fog being lifted. Nootropics increase your blood flow, allowing more oxygen to reach your brain.
When oxygen is introduced to the medial temporal lobe of your brain, nerves are stimulated to fire more rapidly making you feel more focused.
Boost of Energy
Caffeine and Vitamin B12 are added on top of the brain boosting nootropic ingredients in OptiMind®. Both are known to help give you the long-lasting energy you need as you move from task to task.
These stimulants play a major role in how your body absorbs the other ingredients in OptiMind®. Not only do they stimulate your mind but also your metabolism.
Your metabolism aids in delivering the other components of this formula to your system so you can stay energized and alert throughout the day.
Lesser Known Benefits of OptiMind®
There are many other advantages to taking smart drugs like OptiMind® besides enhanced brain function.
Let’s take a look at a few other benefits that come with the ingredients in nootropics like OptiMind®.
- Combat stress and anxiety
- Improved hand-eye coordination
- Better immune system function
- Reduction of swollen tendons
Downsides to OptiMind®
Although OptiMind® has received pretty good reviews among its users, there are several drawbacks to be aware of before you buy.
- Pills can come apart in a container
- Too high a dose can leave users feeling jittery or anxious
- Initial digestive issues
- Doesn’t deliver on its promise for some users
- Contains magnesium stearate
- It’s pricier than some nootropics
Does OptiMind® Deliver on Its Promises?
OptiMind’s claim to fame is its ability to ‘unleash your mind.’ It is suggested that OptiMind® could be a potent brain booster for everyone from the college student who needs an extra push to those with age-related dementia.
Each unique ingredient in the OptiMind® formula has been tested and approved by the FDA for use in this supplement.
However, it remains to be seen if the combination of ingredients has a better effect on cognitive function than less expensive alternatives.
How Does OptiMind® Work?
OptiMind is a high-end blend of well-known ingredients designed to boost your brain function. Some of the key components include L-tyrosine, Bacopa, Vitamin B12, and Caffeine.
This formula was tested and quality-approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA). All claims that OptiMind makes are backed by the FDA including that it maintains healthy mental function, and that it promotes calmness and tranquility.
Let’s take a look at some of the ingredients in OptiMind® and how they work to improve your overall mental performance.
L-tyrosine is an essential amino acid that flows through the blood-brain barrier. See more about this here.
Once it reaches your brain, it becomes a precursor to adrenaline. L-tyrosine also helps prevent stress-induced depletion of norepinephrine and has been thought to alleviate depression.
Vitamin B12 plays a vital role in making DNA as well as maintaining the health of red blood cells. B12 helps with neurological function as well as mood.
It’s released by the hydrochloric acid in your stomach and undergoes absorption. It then acts as a catalyst for methionine synthase and L-methylmalonyl-CoA mutase which are responsible for hundreds of syntheses throughout your body including DNA and RNA.
Bacopa is used in nootropics for its ability to increase the function of certain brain chemicals. These chemicals affect everything from thinking to learning and memory. It is also thought that Bacopa can be helpful for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
Other Ingredients in OptiMind®
OptiMind is made with vegetarian capsules, so this nootropic supplement is vegan-friendly.
It should be noted magnesium stearate is used in this nootropic as a flow agent. Some people are sensitive to it and have adverse reactions such as headaches when ingested.
Reviews: What Are People Saying?
After scouring the web, it seems that overall users are relatively happy with the results of OptiMind®.
‘I ordered my sample of Optimind and tried it for ten days. I am definitely going to stay on the auto-ship program. I’m 58 yrs old, and I work in an office where everyone is younger than me, so I needed something to keep up with everyone and this is it. I am so happy I found something that works.’ Amazon
‘It’s like an energy drink, but doesn’t make you feel all jittery and gross. I was able to work on my books and my homework, and then go and do my physical job easily. I didn’t crash afterwards. It really helped my concentration issues that I have. I could stay focused for hours with no problem.’ SupplementCritique
‘I tried this on two different occasions. It made me feel very strange. I’m not typically sensitive to medications, etc. but this stuff made me uncomfortable. It may be fine for other people and give good results, but I won’t be trying it anymore.’ Amazon
If you’re sensitive to caffeine or other stimulants, you may want to choose a different option or start with a smaller dosage before working your way up.
Published Studies of OptiMind® and Its Ingredients
Very few published clinical trials have been done on the exact blend of OptiMind. Today we’re going to focus on investigating some of the published studies done on its key components to determine if their claims are as good as they say.
L-Tyrosine and Stress Levels
One trial was done to test the effects of the amino acid L-Tyrosine on stress. L-Tyrosine was given to subjects over a 5-day high-stress military training course while others received a placebo.
It was determined that L-Tyrosine was able to improve various aspects of cognitive function by altering the brain’s ability to synthesize both dopamine and norepinephrine.
The final determination was that L-Tyrosine could moderately alleviate the effects of stress.
Correlation Between Bacopa and Brain Function
A higher-quality randomized, double-blind clinical trial was done to determine the abilities of Bacopa in relation to anxiety, depression, and cognitive function over a 6-week period. The findings were fairly interesting.
While little to no evidence showed that the Bacopa affected mood, there were significant changes in word recall as well as overall cognitive function.
The conclusion of the trial was that Bacopa has the potential to enhance cognitive function in aging.
However, more trials need to be done before a definitive conclusion can be made.
Vitamin B12 and Memory Performance
The last study was done to see if Vitamin B12 was linked to memory performance.
Patients were chosen based on high and low B12 concentrations in their bodies. The one hundred MCI (mild cognitive impairment) patients were then given MRIs to assess brain function.
MCI patients who had lower B12 showed a significantly lower learning ability than those who had higher B12 concentrations.
The findings concluded that B12 does in fact, have an impact on memory performance.
Based on the findings of these studies, it seems that the claims that OptiMind® touts are somewhat legitimate. Each of the ingredients in this nootropic has benefits when it comes to overall brain function.
Criticisms and Complaints About OptiMind®
While OptiMind has been well-received by many of its users, there are some that didn’t think so highly of it.
Some OptiMind® users found little to no results, and others had adverse reactions.
Adjustment Period to Nootropics
One of the main downsides to nootropics of all types is the amount of time it takes your body to adjust.
Some people will notice little to no initial side effects, while others may experience nausea, headaches, and even insomnia the first several days.
If you experience any side effects for more than three days, you may need to lower your dosage or discontinue use altogether.
It’s somewhat common to take too much OptiMind®.
It takes a good 30-45 minutes to kick in. Many people make the mistake of thinking it’s not working and take another dosage.
By the time the second dose becomes active, you’ll feel jittery and anxious, which is the opposite intent of OptiMind®.
Always ensure you follow the manufacturer’s directions and never extend dosages higher than recommended.
Visit Your Doctor Beforehand
Although the benefits may seem pretty great, nootropics are not for everyone. Due to certain chemical interactions, OptiMind® is not recommended for people with the following conditions.
- Osteoporosis or low bone density. Drugs like caffeine can increase the amount of calcium that your body flushes through urine.
- Thyroid disorders. L-tyrosine has the potential to worsen thyroid problems by increasing levels of the thyroid hormone.
- Sleep disorders. Many of the ingredients can exasperate sleeping disorders such as restlessness and insomnia.
- GI-problems. Bacopa can increase the secretion of stomach acid. If you’re prone to ulcers, OptiMind might not be for you.
- Heart Conditions. Caffeine can cause irregular heartbeat in too high of doses.
If you have one of these conditions or are taking prescription drugs and would still like to give nootropics a shot, you may want to consult your doctor beforehand.
Your doctor will be able to help you decide on a formula that will have the least impact on your system.
A class action lawsuit on Garcinia Cambogia, one of the key ingredients in OptiMind® was settled on Nov. 5, 2015.
Many American law firms are investigating filed claims that Garcinia Cambogia supplements are made without proof of evidence.
Some of these claims include the ability to ‘burn fat,’ and ‘control appetite.’
It was also stated that Garcinia Cambogia could actually have adverse effects on your health over time.
Although MaritzMayer admits no wrongdoing, they settled out of court to avoid litigation.
